Having a smashing time

Dream

In a recent Aldi catalogue, a small, portable electric powered jack hammer was offered for sale. In last nights dream I bought one of these hammers and brought it home. I didn't use it. It felt like a status symbol. Penny exhorts me to use it, as I had bought it. She wanted me to start smashing things up

Dream notes and associations

I do sometimes buy things on impulse. I have no use for the object but like the idea of owning it. I become obsessed by it. And I justify the purchase by thinking that, although I have no need of the object now, maybe sometime in the future I will need it.

I am also wondering whether the dream is about my current malaise about life and the current covid-19 pandemic. Maybe part of me wants start "smashing" things up, do something radical; retire from work, write that novel, get the juices of life flowing again.

My feelings throughout the dream and on awakening

Penny was very passionate about wanting me to start smashing things up.

Hi Lindsay, how interesting that you purchased the hammer but didn’t use it in your dream. That’s an insightful analogy that may become an ongoing theme. Keep your eye out for any follow up dreams!
