Walkabout

Dream

I've gone walkabout in the bush. I've brought my dog Jedda along with me. She is very excited to accompany me. She goes missing and I am walking through the desert alone. I meet a group of people that I was walking with earlier. They tell me that Jedda was with them, but they haven't seen her for a while. I retrace their footsteps, and I meet up with Jedda. She is excited to see me, and we walk off together.
I am attending a science expo at the ANU (Canberra). I am sent to a building where I expect there to be some presentation, but I find a choir preparing for a performance, which is part of the science expo. They want me to take charge of part of the choir to bring their voices in at an appropriate moment.
I am studying the sheet music note by note. There is a young man standing beside me. He is very handsome and very smartly dressed and he is trying to stick his finger into my anus. I find this annoying particularly as I am trying to concentrate on the music and I slap his hand away, but he immediately sticks a finger from his other hand into my anus. I tell him to stop it as I am trying to concentrate on the music.
My mobile phone rings and it is a woman who tells me she is trying to contact someone where I am. I ask another woman, who is dressed in this bright red checked religious garment if she knows the person the woman is looking for. This woman is very annoyed that I have asked her a question. I say I just want to know who this person is that the woman, on the phone, is asking for. She tells me to speak to the provost. I talk to the provost, who is dressed in a monk's robes and looks like Henry, from Antique Road show. he is the person the lady is looking for, so I hand him the phone and he walks off talking to her.
I decide that I had better find him and get my phone back. I see him and he has finished the call, and he is putting my phone on a bookshelf. He sees me and hands me my phone. My phone is in a plastic satchel. I remove the phone from the satchel and I hand the satchel back to him. I can vaguely remember walking around a park after that.

Dream notes and associations

Walkabout has a distinct meaning in Australia. It is a rite of passage that indigenous boys undertake once they have reached adolescence. It is also the name of a very good movie that I have seen several times.
Jedda was my dog who died in the mid to late nineties.
ANU (Australian National University) a tertiary institution in Canberra. I haven't studied there but I did do some Centre for Continuing Education courses there.

My feelings throughout the dream and on awakening

Excited, annoyance

Hi Lindsay, there’s something symbolic about walking around in the desert as well. That’s interesting to hear Lara’s perspective – my immediate reaction was that you were firm and no nonsense when you slapped the hand away and you also stood up for yourself when you told him to stop. Might be interesting to explore this further.
