Young Love

Dream

Penny and I are two love-sick teenagers. Penny is lying on her back on the carpet in the living room. I am lying on my front and my face is above hers. We are kissing each other. Her father is sitting in an armchair behind us. He looks like he wants to say something but cannot find the words. Milk is oozing out of Penny's breasts. Her clothes are saturated with this milk. We are both wearing our school uniforms.

Dream notes and associations

The room had a 1950s, working class feel about it. Her family were middle class. Her father was an English and History teacher. Reminded me of the poem 'Preludes' by T. S. Eliot, which we studied at school. I would say this is emergent phenomenon from the last dream I presented to you. It was the description of smells and the atmosphere of the urban landscape that most resonated with me. That is a reference to the poem.
Also reminded me of "The Start of the Affair " dream. The carpet reminded me of the carpet in our house, when I was a teenager.
An obvious point to make but Penny and I did not know each other as teenagers. She was born and grew up in England and I was born and grew up in Australia. We met when we were both in our thirties.

My feelings throughout the dream and on awakening

Love, innocence of youth. The smell of the milk was very strong. 1950s working class.

Hi Lindsay, definitely some strong dream characters here. Particularly Penny’s father as an overarching presence. Penny’s breastmilk seems very significant here too. I’m wondering whether there are some connections around a nurturing presence or perhaps a need for emotional nourishment.
